A spray paint artist from Portoro, Slovenia has made quite the impact on the world of online video. The "Sprayman", Janez Jevnikar, utilizes a spray painting technique known as "Aerosolgrafia" to create amazing fantasy-looking paintings within just a matter of minutes. The series of three videos says it all. Before beginning to paint using the aerosolgrafia technique, Jevnikar had no formal training in art. In fact, the only art he had done had been illegal graffiti. That's all changed now. After posting the series of three videos online in October of 2006, he's received over 1.5 million hits, making him one of the most popular street artists on the net.
The strong contrast and sci-fi nature of his paintings has drawn quite the attention from other sci-fi fanatics, however, Jevnikar's exhibitions have been limited to schools, bars, and his local art galleries.
When I first witnessed the videos I was completely amazed, to actually watch the process of this man create these masterful pieces of artwork in just a matter of minutes was incredible. While the genre of his work does fall mostly along the lines of sci-fi/fantasty, any art lover can appreciate the technique, style and overall talent that go into every original piece that he produces.
In the first video, as seen here, Jevnikar creates a masterful piece depicting planetary objects and pyramids in a brilliant display of red and orange colors. By using a series of stenciling object, including a spray can, some scraps of paper, and some smaller round objects, he quickly transforms a regular sheet of paper into an amazing work of art, in just a matter of a few minutes. As the crowd of onlookers gathers, Jevnikar seems unaffected by the attention and proceeds to add detail after amazing detail to the emerging piece of artwork.
The total running time of the first video is 8:54, and is well worth watching every single second.
