The Most Unsanitary Spot in the Home or Workplace
You May Be Surprised
In times past we pretty much knew that our bathrooms were the most unsanitary place in the home or workplace. And they still rank as one of the nastiest. But with so many people staring at screens at home and at work or school all day, the winner of the 'yuckiest spot' goes to the desk and computer now. There is the usual computer grime: pencil, pen and marker smears and shavings, dust, environmental 'floaties', etc. Lots of us eat and drink at the computer desks. Our hands may be clean, but no one is germ free and hands are our most unsanitary body part. We comb and brush our hair, apply make-up, rub our faces etc. And of course, there's the coughing, sneezing and nose blowing. And if you are typical, you desk could be more organized. There are papers and office supplies, no to mention coffee cups, ashtrays, Kleenex and all sorts of litter scattered everywhere.
So basically, for long periods of time, we are generating a lot of organic and inorganic filth and spreading it on our keyboard, monitor and desk. Our desks and computer area are a funland for germs, bacteria, disease and fungus. And when there is no fresh air from windows or a proper ventilation system, we are not only generating, but recycling all that. No wonder so many strains of viral illness are resilient and resistant to cure.
So what the solution. Well, there are several basic steps that can be followed to clean up the toxic waste dump on our desks.
1--clean it up I know we all groan, but you knew this was coming. Every week at least, the surface and surrounding area of the desk must be purged of papers and trash. Even paper sorters collect dust and filth, so they have to be dunged out and stuff filed or pitched out. Keep office supplies in the desk drawers. Keep the knickknacks and pictures to a minimum on the desk itself these are dust and germ collectors).
