British Comedian Jack Dee - DVD "Live Again": Genius at Work!

One of Britain's Top Comedians

One of Britain's top comedians, Jack Dee presents his dead pan comedy with sharp timing great delivery and rich material. I was pretty surprised to find his DVD, "Live Again" in the bargains section of a local supermarket. This happened to be the best DVD that I bought in 2008. It was
worth changing the region on my computer to watch this one! Word of caution, when ordering, please make sure you get a copy that plays in your region.

Jack Dee- Live Again: Review.

Material: Jack Dee exhibits an ever-observant character, absorbing his environment like a sponge. He talks about places he has visited, hotels (extremely hilarious observation on how showers differ from Hotel to Hotel. Some with soft water other with hard water. The power shower etc.) He talks about the upcoming Olympics in London, again with a very interesting and original take on sport, from shot putt to javelin. Jack Dee will take you shopping, call up a directory service, take his kids to school, get drunk, and visit a pub. All this came with practically a laugh every minute. It is hard to believe he was consistent through out his act (Filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo).

Delivery: Precision and originality are consistent in Jack Dee's delivery. His characters are alive, different and have traits that are unforgettable. Each of his scenarios opens doors for new characters to come rushing in. When he plays the drunken guy, you can instantly relate to the character. My favourite is his take on the staff in a D.I.Y shop (In this case he sited B&Q, UK).

Timing: Impeccable comic timing only makes you wonder how he does it. Jack's material is so well set that when he hits a punch line, you will be just about ready for the next laugh. Through out the DVD "Live Again" he did not drag out too long with a story before the punch line.

His material is wide ranging, to give an example; he talks here about David Copperfield's flying act. Note the delivery in this clip (Young comedians could learn a lot from this: good education and research material.) He looks at tattoos and how the NHS (National Health Services) removes these for free. See the clip here.

I honestly don't know much about the British comedy genre. I remember that show "Are you being served" would come on late at night in the DC area.
