If you're like just about every other electronics consumer in the past year or so you may have forgotten that Sony deals with anything outside of video games. All of the intention that has been pushed in the direction of the PlayStation 3 may have caused you to forget that they make a snazzy digital
camera. Combine this with the fact that I was still relying on a shady, years old Kodak EasyShare and it's easy to see why I was in the market for an upgrade. Luckily, Sony's Cybershot DSC-W55 proved to be the perfect fit for my pocket and my wallet.

To begin with, I was floundering around with a digital camera that wasn't even of the 4 mega pixel variety, when the standard for digital cameras has reached 7 mega pixels. The features were barren and it absolutely destroyed batteries, so I needed something new and fast. Something that would last be a decent amount of time and not run me $300 in one shot was in order. Luckily, the DSC-W55 only cost me $200 and it's a monumental leap from what I was carrying around for the past year or so, also, it's a gigantic leap forward from the fat bodied, ugly EasyShare camera I was touting (though the DSC-W55 isn't exactly the Beyoncé of digital cameras).

Before going into detail on how it functions as a point and shoot camera, the bare basics should be covered. For starters, it's incredibly light (a quarter of an ounce), which is perfectly fine for me, though others have complained about not being sure just how durable it is (consider a warrant if this bothers you). The resolution is measured at 7.2 megapixels which upgrading from 3.2 was absolutely stellar. Compared to its contemporaries in terms of quality, it's right up there (and with its price it's a good bang for your buck). Also of the features that have become basic are included, so you won't be missing out on that sepia, portrait, twilight, snow and every other specialized feature that you should expect in a digital camera.
