The Joy of Jazz Music
Another must have, the mother of the jazz instruments is an alto clarinet. She croons in that mellifluous, haunting voice that makes the world all okay. Played in the lower registers, I like a saxophone too. The other children who make their appearances in different forms of jazz are the obstreperous jazz trumpet or coronet, the jazz piano and the wonderful jazz guitar. I've heard jazz done on an electric guitar but it doesn't seem to fit the personality of jazz.
There are so many wonderful jazz artists and singers. It would be difficult to name my favorites but here are just a few. Duke Ellington, Satchmo, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Jelly Roll Morton, John Coltrane, Wynton Marsalis, Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Glenn Miller, Charlie, Parker, Count Basie, Fats Waller, Chick Webb, Bennie Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, and of course, the diva Ella Fitzgerald. There, I've probably forgotten someone. Jazz music is pure joy for me.
