The people of Northeast Tennessee take great pride in their Appalachian heritage. The arts and crafts that stem from this heritage are displayed in fall craft fairs that are held throughout the region.
Folk Arts Festival at the Exchange Place
This festival will be held on Saturday, September 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday, September 27 from noon to 5:00 p.m. Admission is only $1.00. There will be heritage craftspeople demonstrating 1850s crafts; i.e., vegetable dyeing, quilting, basket making, rope making, chair making, caning, whittling, blacksmithing, weaving, spinning, pottery, hearth side cooking soap making, apple cider squeezing, and handmade toys. In addition, there will be numerous vendors. Still Hollow Farm, for example, will have their decorated arrangements of fall produce there. There will also be food and music. Sycamore Shoals Celtic Festival
On September 12 and 13, the Sycamore Shoals Celtic Festival will be taking place at the Sycamore Shoals Historical Park in Elizabethton, TN. Along with the numerous vendors, there will be all types of events celebrating the Scottish and Irish influences in Northeast Tennessee. Included will be such events as a Torchlight Ceremony, A Calling of the Clans, Costume Contest, Best Legs in a Kilt Contest, Appalachian British Car Show, Re-Enactment Camps, Jericho Highland Pipe Band, Weapon Demonstration, plus lots of food and music.
