Resurfacing Your Patio Furniture: French Country Antique Paint Process for Wood Patio Furniture

To start this French Country Patio Furniture project you will need to thoroughly clean your old patio furniture. You should either rent a pressure washer or are prepared to scrub.

When resurfacing or painting any outdoor furniture it is super important to start with a clean and dry surface. So, one you spray off your patio furniture, let it sit in the sun to dry.

Here is a list of supplies you will need to start French Country antiquing and resurfacing your old Patio Furniture:

A variety of 2", 3", or 4" paint brushes
Wood stain
Glaze
Sandpaper
Drop clothes
Cheap, outdated, or plain Patio Furniture
Oil Base Primer
Exterior Bright or Royal Blue Paint & Sunny Yellow Paint or Terra Cotta and Blue Paint
Roller paint brushes

You can use some steel wool sand paper, or even a power sander for this next step, which is sanding the surface of your plain Patio Furniture.

Once you have the surface lightly sanded, you should wipe off the dust with a clean dry clothe.

Now, you are ready to put a coat of primer. Use a plastic ready primer if your furniture is plastic ( you will not need to sand). If not, use an oil based primer.

Allow your primer to dry for a minimum of 10 hours.

Put on a coat of your base paint. I recommend a nice warm yellow or terra cotta color.

Let this dry for r24 hours.

Now you are ready to paint your French Country Patio Furniture with the real color you wish them to be. Warm and rich royal blue is a great color. You could also do a Hunter green.

Once your French Country Patio Furniture color has dried you are ready to start antiquing it.

Start by rough it up with some steel wool. You can also try using the sand paper to rough up edges and other areas that would typically be used over time.

This will allow your sunny yellow to show through the bright blue. You can do this process until you achieve the antique look you want for your French Country Patio Furniture

Once you have finished sanding the French Country Patio Furniture wipe the surface down with a clean dry cloth.
