If you have a toddler then you know it is fairly complicated to keep them entertained for more than 5 minutes. But little do parents know they have resources all around the house to provide enough fun for quite some time. I have compiled a list of ideas that I have used and have succeeded in keeping my 2-year-old content and happy.1.) Home made play-doh, chalk, and more - I have found these to be the best because they are easy to make and it is a two part step, make and use. I feel they help you and your child bond by working on the project together and the end result are toys you and your child can keep or toss. A good website that has a list of recipes is www.domestic-church.com/CONTENT.DCC/19980501/FRIDGE/PLAY.HTM
2.) Recyclables to toys- Have you ever really looked at what trash you can turn into treasure you would be surprised as to what you would find around the house. For example you can use an old paper towel role, color it and now you have a telescope. Here are some ideas to turn your trash into treasure:
a.) Paper towel rolls - make perfect telescopes or mega phones
b.) Pop cans - make perfect wind chimes just tie to a string and hang in the air.
c.) Tissue paper from gift bags- use these to make collages or I personally use for making butterfly wings they add color and texture.
3.) Rags to Riches- Use old clothes, rags,or any kind of fabric and make a special quilt. Another good idea is to make costumes from old items of clothing so before you give to Goodwill reconsider using the clothes for fun.
4.) The Cookie Counter- This can be done with any type of your child's favorite snacks and is a helpful learning resource. Simply use these treats as incentive to learn, put out 5 cookies and ask then to count them after they count them for each one they get right give them one of their treats.
5.) Forts- You can build these anywhere from virtually anything. You can use bunk beds, boxes, blankets, tree houses, etc. I used to do this a s a kid and pretend i was in a different world with all sorts of different creatures.
