The racing season is about to begin in Louisville, Kentucky. Louisville is , perhaps, best known for hosting the famous Kentucky Derby, but there are also many other attractions in this beautiful city.The horse racing season starts at the end of April and runs through early July. There is more horse racing between October and November. The Kentucky Derby, held at Churchill Downs, attracts enthusiastic race fans from all over the globe. The famous Derby is held on the first weekend in May. The race is the culmination of ten days of parties and celebrations.
If you are interested in learning about horse racing, there is a museum, called the Kentucky Derby Museum. The museum is two floors of racing artifacts, with interactive displays and fine art. "The Greatest Race" narrates the life of a thoroughbred from foal to Derby champion.
There are many attractions in the gracious city of Louisville. The Filson Historical Society has Kentucky's largest collection of antebellum portraits. Fraser International History Museum has two world class collections of armor, arms and war artifacts from Briton. Historic Locust Grove is a 1790 Georgian mansion. Attractions also include: Louisville Zoo, Thomas Edison House, Louisville Science Center, Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, Muhammad Ali Center, The Speed Art Museum, Riverside and much more.
