Over 2,000 years ago, God undertook an amazing feat as He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, into this world. Unbelievers can claim that He never existed; yet even timekeepers mark the passing of years by using BC (Before Christ) and AD; AD stands for Ano Domini, which is Latin for "the year (anno) of our Lord (Domini)". BC years count down to the birth of Christ (so 500 BC is earlier than 50 BC) while AD years count away from the birth of Christ (50 AD is early than 500 AD).

Because of secularism and a hatred for anything remotely Christian, there has been an effort to remove any reference to BC and AD. BC, by some is replaced by BCE (Before Common Era) and AD with CE (Common Era).

Despite these things, what cannot be forgotten is the Savior of the world - Jesus. The world still celebrates Passover or Good Friday. This is a time to recall that Jesus, who said, "I and my Father are One" was crucified on the cross for our sins. The story doesn't end at the cross. We serve a risen Lord. Jesus rose from the grave and this marks the day of the resurrection, also known as Easter Sunday.

The Evidence

Jesus died on the cross and was buried. His earliest enemies knew this to be true. And no one, until Mohammed, doubted that he died on the cross.

Justin Martyr, circa 150, refers the Roman emperor to the works of Pontius Pile in his archive for the reports of Jesus' death and miracles. His death is mentioned by Cornelius Tactitus around 112-124 A.D. Lucian of Samosata, Josephus, and the Letter of Samosata all mention Jesus' death. Jewish Talmudic writings also corroborate this fact.

I have already mentioned I Corinthians 15, written by the apostle Paul. Versus 3 through 5 are believed to be an early Christian creed dated to the first 5 years after Jesus' death. Mark, the earliest gospel at around 40 A.D., records Jesus' death. These report Jesus' death very early.

While some skeptics have doubted the existence of Jesus, let alone his death, there is no basis for this. The earliest Christian record, the secular record, and even the enemies of Christianity all knew the fact of Jesus' death.
