These simple Mother's Day Card place mats are a very easy craft project you can make out of those great old vintage Mother's Day Cards. I always come across great retro and vintage Mother's Day Cards at the flea market.

I also have a few that were family Mother's Day Cards my grandmother bought and sent years ago in the 1970's and 80's. This simple place mat craft allows you to use new or old Mother's Day Cards to make craft without ruining them.

To Make This simple Mother's Day Card Place Mat You Will Need:

Old or New Mother's Day Cards

A trip to Kinko's

Glitter

Paint pins

Pastel ribbons

Any other craft materials you choose

Whole punch

Scissors

Pinking sheers

The first step is to take your vintage Mother's Day Cards to Kinko's a have them blown up to place mat size. I find that 12 inches by 20 inches is a great size. This shape works great for horizontal shaped Mother's Day cards, but you can also easily make it with vertical Mother's Day cards.

Substitute a nice piece of craft paper or even pastel scrapbook paper for the 12 x 20 inch placemat. Now, have your Vintage Mother's Day cards copied to the same size or blown slightly larger. You can randomly place them on the scrap paper and then carry on with this simple Mother's Day craft project as usual.

Ok, so now that you have the basic shape of your Mother's Day dinner placemat you need to start decorating it. Now, so many of the vintage and new Mother's Day cards already look great how they are, but when blown up might need a little more decorating.

I like to use glittery paint pens to outline words or even images. If you are doing this with words, then try to outline them in a similar paint color.

You could also run a bead of glue around words and images. Sprinkle on some glitter, and then knock off the excess.

Now, once all of your paint and glitter had dried you need to laminate the Mother's Day card placemat. I do not own a laminating machine, but you can always take anything to Kinko's to be laminated.

Now, you can have them laminate about one inch out around the photocopied Mother's Day card.

Take your pinking sheers and cut a great looking decorative border on the Mother's Day craft placemat.

Takeaways
  • You can randomly place them on the scrap paper and then carry on with this simple craft.
  • Substitute a nice piece of craft paper or even pastel scrapbook paper for the 12 x 20 inch placemat.
