Kevin Smith has finally revealed the details of his upcoming horror film, "Red State".

Kevin Smith is most notable for his profane comedies always involving the characters Jay and Silent Bob; as played by Jason Mewes and Smith himself respectively. In more recent times, as a director, he has been associated with his want to stray from the Jay and Bob sort of storylines, thus far creating the flop "Jersey Girl" and the luke-warm received sequel of "Clerks", "Clerks 2"; which to some seemed like he made it just to shut people up and it did involve Jay and Bob.

Hinting for months in the press about a horror project he was interested in doing, Kevin has finally spoken out about what is driving the concept: Fred Phelps. Phelps is a Kansas preacher and the leader of a group that protests at soldier funerals with anti-homosexual rants and picket signs. One of the basic concepts generally deciphered from Phelp's actions is that he believes US soldiers are killed in Iraq because America tolerates homosexuality, amongst other sins.

In a recent UK interview Smith revealed his fascination with Phelps and the possibilities of basing an villainous character off of a person such as him. The character isn't an exact replicate of Phelps, but rather an extreme version for maximum horror. To Smith the fact that people and the government as a whole allow a person such as Phelps to do what he does is a scary thought worth examining.

I thought the bonus footage in the DVD's of him having a live interview audience at a college was the best work he ever produced, whether or not if it was actually meant to be commercial.
