Each year, thousands of high school seniors in the United States graduate their high school and leave their high school friends to go on to bigger and better things. These bigger and better opportunities usually come in the form of attending college and many college scholarships. For the average college freshman, though, going off to college can seem a bit scary and daunting at first. There are all sorts of new things that are awaiting them. However, there are many fears associated with leaving home that they have to contend with.

Some of those fears involve leaving their high school sweetheart and they're afraid that they'll never see them again. Aside from leaving their boyfriend or girlfriend though, soon-to-be college freshman realize that they might have to leave many of their friends in order to follow their dreams of attending college, graduating, and following a career path. Other apprehensive fears might include being homesick and even worries about not being able to make friends as easily as they did in high school. Whatever the fears are, however, rest assured that plenty of other teenagers are experiencing the exact same thing!

Making Allies!

As soon as you arrive at college and your new dorm, your first instinct may be to crawl into a small hole and die. Although this seems like a plausible opportunity to do so, you will only have this experience of college once. Taking full advantage of the opportunities that are presented before you is what you should do! Instead of shying away from the plenty of opportunities that there are to make new friends, becoming friends with your roommate and other people who live in your dorm can be crucial to helping you survive the first quarter or semester of college. These people not only will be your friends, but they'll help you stay in check when and if you start to consider cutting college and going back home.
