Are You Really on a Diet? How to Tell If You Are in Diet Denial

A friend of mine who works at a local Blimpie's Restaurant recently told me a sad little story about one of her customers. An alarmingly large woman came into the shop and asked her if they carried any low carb breads. My friend's answer was "no," but she informed her that they were carrying a low carb wrap now. The large woman then ordered three low carb wraps, with extra mayo, light, of course, and a large soda, stating that she had to eat "this way" because she was on a diet. After inhaling her very large meal, which would have been a challenge for any hearty man to have eaten, she ordered three cookies, stating that she could do so because she had been following her diet "real good" lately. This should put a serious amount of concern into any dieters head. The fact is, so many of us spend years pulling our hair out trying to figure out why our diet plans don't work, when in fact we were never really following one. People don't understand that cutting back on fat doesn't mean that you can have twice the amount of food. That's just counterproductive. All diets are really the same. You cut back on fat, you drink a lot of water, and you exercise until you can't feel your legs anymore. That's it. That's just about the only healthy way to do it. It's hard. There are no shortcuts to long term success. Sure, you can take a few diet pills and wonder drugs to help you lose those first few pounds, but in order to actually keep the weight off you will have to be willing to make lifestyle changes and leave that overeating, under-active lifestyle behind you. It's just that simple. So, here we pose the question....are you really even on a diet?
