Digital Camera Review: Canon Powershot SD1000

While I was on my search for a replacement to my aging Kodak EasyShare, one of the digital cameras that I considered was within Canon's Powershot line. The SD 1000 is a 7.1 megapixel camera that has a nice rectangular shape with some smoothed over sharp corners. Ultimately it was the $300 price tag that sent me elsewhere for a camera, but the Powershot SD1000 is still an extremely capable camera for point-and-shoot addicts and would go well with anyone looking to spend the money on a good ultra compact digital camera. The basics are impressive for a compact digital camera with 7.1 megapixels. You'll be taking picture in fourteen different modes as Canon clearly thought of something up for most any situation that should arise. Though point and shoot, I was allowed to do some tinkering in the store and I was pretty satisfied as to how much I could adjust for the shot and take the picture. After using an ancient EasyShare camera I was pretty used to having to wait awhile before I took another picture. Everything had to register and I had to wait for the camera to set up for a second shot. Luckily, the SD1000 took no more than a second for me to snap another picture and the shutter lag has been reported as a half second (cnet.com).
The 2.5 inch screen was also pretty attractive, having moved on from something that was just about an inch. While I was simply in awe from all of the new features that exist on cameras nowadays, it was quickly done away with as I did more and more research. 2.5 inches for a screen is pretty standard but the LCD display on the camera was still rather attractive and perfect for me since I really don't enjoy looking like a tourist from the early 90's anymore.
