Where to Take Sailing Lessons in Chicago

Can you imagine spending your summer Sunday afternoons sailing on Lake Michigan, enjoying the cool breezes and warm sunshine? That dream is not beyond your reach. There are schools in Chicago that have sailing lessons that will make that possible for you after just a couple of days sailing lessons. Of course, you can go for higher certification levels and even be able to captain a long cruise to who knows where. Take a look at each one of them. They all offer lessons in a different way. Pick the one that has lessons that fit your schedule, and the one that has the staff you are most comfortable with.

Chicago Sailing has lessons available for the beginner up to racing level. You can take sailing lessons to go as far as it is possible to go, or just enough to be able to go out for a few hours on the lake. Their classes are all small enough for all the students to be able to get individual attention. To begin with, they have a new program, introduction to sailing, a three hour on the water course that will give you enough information for you to decide if sailing is for you. Basic Sailing 101 gets you started with 15-16 hours of on-water training and there is a maximum of 4 students per boat. When you finish these sailing lessons, you will be able to take out a 22' keelboat. Intermediate Sailing 161 takes you to the next step. Complete these sailing lessons and you will be eligible to take the US Sailing's Basic Keelboat Certification test. If you want to go further, you can take these sailing lessons, Advanced Sailing 201, Racing and Crewing, Basic Auxiliary Qualification, Basic Cruising and Live Aboard Cruising and Seamanship.
