Things We Will Miss About "King of Queens"

With only a handful of episodes remaining, I want to look at the King of Queens as the great comedy that it was and take a moment to reflect on what we will miss when it is off the air.

1. The chemistry between Leah Remini and Kevin James.

Television is full of unlikely relationships between average-looking middle aged men and younger, hotter wives. The average man, hot wife thing could have befallen King of Queens if not for the incredible chemistry between the two main stars of the sitcom. From the beginning, Kevin James and Leah Remini argued and made up like any true married couple would, and that is why we believed their love story. We believe they would have fallen for each other, because we would have fallen for them as well.

2. Realistic arguments between husband and wife.

Life issues come up, and Doug and Carrie have to face them. (As all couples do.) They often disagree. (As all couples do.) When they disagree, they do it over issues that real people would disagree over, and they do it with the same arguments that real people would have. Doug and Carries go through the same fights and conversations we have had with our own partners, and will continue to have. Only they do it with snappy dialogue, and much better comedic timing that we could ever hope for.

3. It is a good, traditional sitcom.

King of Queens stuck to the traditional roots of sitcom. Likeable characters in humorous situations trying to make everything work out, and usually succeeding in mucking things up considerably in the process, has been the sitcom formula since the days of black and whites on dial televisions. Instead of going out of their way to push the envelope of good taste, as many shows are doing these days, King of Queens stuck to the tried and true formula, and proved that great writing and great performances still make it work.

4. Doug vs. Arthur

Whether telling unconvincing stories about his past or bursting into a tirade at a moment's notice for a completely unknown reason, Arthur was the constant thorn in the side of marital bliss. For Doug, Arthur served as the greatest challenge to getting to spend alone time with his hot wife.
