After almost a year of post-college job searching, I decided to try a temp agency. Even though I have a degree, four years experience in food and retail, two years experience as a supervisor, and some office/administrative experience, it seems I can't find an entry level office job to save my life.
So why not let an agency do it for me?

I selected AppleOne, because they staff the types of jobs I've been looking for and they do temporary and permanent placements. I don't know anyone who's ever tried working through any agencies near me, but word of mouth advice would have been very helpful. If I had heard how ineffective this agency is, I wouldn't have wasted my time.

I interviewed with AppleOne five weeks ago. They have two different versions of my resume, both are current and detailed. I've also done some typing tests, and 45 wpm seems to be good enough for most jobs. Aside from that, nothing has come of my partnership with AppleOne.

I did not expect them to find me a job right away, but after five weeks they have not even landed me an interview anywhere. Despite the fact the representative I've been working with says he sends my resume out each week, and that I'll take temp or permanent placement, I have to wonder how effective AppleOne really is. When you job hunt on your own, you usually get an interview within a five week period if you are aggressive. How aggressively is AppleOne representing me?

Now, if you've enrolled with AppleOne, do not expect your representative to answer your questions. I've asked several, and each time was given an answer that contained such circular logic you can hardly understand it, and the answer doesn't even begin to address the question at hand.

  • My AppleOne rep is not professional at all.
  • AppleOne has given me no indication they're representing me as well as I'd like.
  • I'm definitely not impressed!

Been with an Apple One in Atlanta and they do suck. Rep called me on Tuesday and left a message. I called back 20 minutes later, left a message, called back everyday until the following Wednesday and he was unavailable. Finally talked to him on Thursday just for him to say he had to place someone else because he "couldn't get in contact with me". What a joke!!! I've been with them for about a month and I don't get any feedback from him. I guess I can't expect too much from a free agency, but it would've been nice to know what a waste of time this would be.

I AM BEGINNING TO BELIEVE THAT APPLEONE WILL NOT EVEN TRY TO FIND ME A JOB. I THINK VERY MUCH THAT MY FIRST PROBLEM IS MY AGE. I AM NOT A SIT AT HOME PERSON. I REALLY NEED A JOB. I AM IN BANKING BUT I WANT SOMETHING ELSE . I HAVE REALLY FORGOT MORE ABOUT BANKING THAN SOME PEOPLE WILL EVER LEARN. I JUST WANT A NICE QUIET LITTLE JOB DOING CLERICAL OR JUST A FILE CLERK WORKING 9 TO 5 AND NO WEEKENDS BECAUSE I AM INVOLVED WITH MY CHURCH.

The fact of the matter is, AppleOne is able to find placements for QUALIFIED candidates. Experience is necessary and so is a positive attitude. I was a candidate through AppleOne. I had 3 years of administrative experience at a construction company, and 2 years of retail experience in a management position. Within my first week with the agency, my account executive was able to send me to 3 different interviews, all Fortune 500 companies with excellent reputations... and benefit plans! I recommended one of my old coworkers go through AppleOne she was placed as a direct hire with a great company as well. AppleOne is a people business- its up to them to judge potential employees for their clients. I'm not surprised they passed on you. Maybe they just figured you for what you were: a lazy complainer.

Real Deal: You do have some good points. However, I do not think asking a rep at Apple One once, maybe twice a month if any jobs have come up you might be interested in is overboard. Even if a rep is swamped they should have the decency to respond to a monthly inquiry - even if it's only to say "sorry we're busy". I'd have been cool with that. How can you fill jobs if you ignore people who want to take them?

The deal is that AO and others really work for the companys not you. Once you accept that then you will be a lot further along. It is a resource and a poor one at that albeit . Most of the jobs are lower pay grade and the company is not going to want a person that is college degreed, for example, for a 12$ CSR job. The odds are while you would accept this position to make $ the company (AO real client) knows that you will not really stick it out. Therefore why pay A1 - 1k or so for you. It is the nature of the beast. Again they are not going to answer your questions because you are not the customer/client. The company paying the fees is. On a side note. When you ask so many questions you put unwanted pressure on the rep and when the rep has 100 people to choose from why pick you, sense you presented yourself as "challenging" or difficult. Present well, be open, be nice do not challenge and take the $ and run. Peace.

to LOL: if you had read the rest of the comments you would have noticed my comment explaining myself further: AppleOne sucks because they have HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. If they can't find someone a job, fine. That doesn't excuse treating job candidates poorly. Furthermore, you should not assume a person cannot find an office job just because they have a horrible attitude. A wonderful person with a great attitude can still struggle to find a good job in today's economy. I've actually landed myself many good jobs on my own - hence your assumption that I'm a poor job candidate is wrong. As the saying goes "when you ASSume you make an ASS of you and me". Way to go making yourself look smart and stuck up.

I personally LOL'd in real life when I read the OP and it starts out by saying "I couldn't find a job on my own with my wonderful experience"..then goes on to say how bad a staffing agency is because they couldn't produce any results. No offense to anyone reading this but typically the problem isn't the agency it is however the candidate. A bad atttitude, some self imposed belief that someone owes them something, unrealistic expectations, ect........................

They advertise jobs they don't have. And I worked for a company for 3 weeks last year. They promised to call me in October. When they called Appleone told them I was unavailable. One of the employees I worked with had my cell number and called me to verify. Appleone had never made an attempt to contact me. The company called and let Appleone know that they had contacted me directly and wanted to work with me because I was already trained for the position

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I didn't even make it to the interview stage. I was on my way to the interview when the representative called and canceled on me because I was open to any job they were willing to place me in. HUH???!!!!!! Not only that, she then went on about how I have no job experience. I HAVE A LAW DEGREE AND HAVE WORKED AT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE. These people are delusional and don't even waste your time!!!

AppleOne does suck! I signed up with AppleOne a few weeks ago. I went in ..took all the tests and did well! My representative has awful communication skills! I have called him once and emailed him twice..kinda feel like a stalker, but I need a JOB!!!! He finally emailed me today with crap like..."still working on it " ...and "haven't heard anything"! BS! I don't even believe that he even marketed my resume! Finally, my light bulb upstairs came on and I signed up with another agency! Hello....they call me daily and have already set me up on 2 interviews this week.
