In the University District of Seattle, Washington lies a video rental store that could easily be passed up, ignored, or simply blend in with the surrounding area. Scarecrow Video does not stand out from its surroundings, nor does it flash glamorous lights, neon signs, or "deals of the week" on its outside walls, but what lies inside the doors is something special that is nearly impossible to not appreciate.

The interior of Scarecrow video is a sight to see. With movie genres ranging from Lil' Bastard horror films (Chucky, Leprechaun, etc.) to those cheesy World Series recaps you see offered with a Sports Illustrated subscriptions, Scarecrow video has everything. The selection is almost overwhelming, and you'll find yourself holding on to about fifteen films, even after only being in the store for a few minutes. But for any movie fan, especially ones with an eclectic taste, Scarecrow is a type of utopia.

The prices aren't too shabby either. While older DVDs don't get you the same discount that a chain rental place might provide, it's still only $4 for a week. Considering the selection you're provided with, it's hard to complain about four bucks.

My only complaint about Scarecrow is that it's not uncommon for it to be pretty crowded, but the service nearly makes up for it. Employess will get your movies ready while you're in line to speed up the process, and are pretty quick at the register. The line may seem long, but getting through really doesn't take that long.

Another little quirky feature about Scarecrow is their guidebook. They have a book that you can look through will all of the titles in stock, their location in the store, and best of all, a little paragraph about the film. Looking for a b-horror film, we checked out the "reviews" of a few titles we were already familiar with, and it was pretty entertaining to read what the "experts" had to say about the films we considered "so bad they're good."
