What Are You Looking for in a College?

It is almost expected today that if you are a high school senior, you will be going to college next year. Over time going to college has changed. It no longer necessarily means living in a dorm or sitting in a lecture hall. Today you have many choices at your disposal, but how do you know which option is going to work best for you?

Choosing a college is a big decision for a teenager, but there are many resources that can help you and your child make that decision. The internet is a great place to research post secondary education and there are also many magazines that rate colleges and their quality of education. There are many aspects, of the college that you are considering, that you will want to evaluate.

Career Path. What are you considering as a career? Are you considering being a medical transcriptionist? Maybe you are thing about being an engineer. These students most likely would not attend the same school. The school you attend may depend on the field that you are planning on entering. If you are undecided about what you want do with your future, you may want to select a school that offers a large variety of options. Transferring schools and credits can sometimes be a major inconvenience.

School Requirements. What is the school you are considering looking for in their students? Academics? Athletics? If you excel in sports, your choice of school will probably be different than if you graduated in the top two percent of your class. Find out what your chosen school has for entrance requirements. Most schools do require you to take the SAT as part of your entrance preparation.

Types of students. Are you looking for a conservative school? Maybe you want to live on campus. You may be over 35 and don't really want to attend school with teenagers. There are schools that have religious affiliations, schools where the student's average age exceeds 35, there are schools that allow you to take classes online, if that is what suits your needs.
