The first step is to have the kids draw out a plan or design for their spring flower apron. Think of these as Daisy petals.
You could also cut out whole Tulip heads though and not use the buttons.
They can trace the apron onto a large sheet of newsprint or sketch out a smaller image on some notebook paper.
So, once your pattern has been established, start sewing on the buttons. These will serve as the flower centers! Get creative and look for some vintage buttons at the flea market.
Now, cut out petals for the flowers from your colorful felt squares. Simply trace the petals on the fabric with your chalk. Try to make the petals at least 2 inches in length or longer for better visual impact.
Now, you need to cut out a bunch of green flower stems and leaves from the felt. The stems should be about 4 inches tall or more and as wide as suits each flower.
Now, glue the different spring flower pieces on around each button. Be liberal with the glue! You want to be able to wash this Spring Flower apron afterall.
You can also cut out birds, the sun, and even clouds. Basically anything that will compliment your spring flowers.
Now, once the glue has dried you can eve use some yarn and a metal tapestry needle to sew on some fake stitchery! This is a great way to fool everyone in to believing everything is stitched on.
You are refinished!
