This hand painted Mother's Day doormat is simple to make and very affordable. It is the perfect idea for kids to make as a homemade gift for Mom. If you already have an existing plain doormat you could also us that for this Mother's Day craft project.

Tip: Spray the doormat off with some soap and water to make sure you have a clean surface. You could also vacuum your doormat to remove any dust and dirt before you wash it.

I love changing out my doormat with the holidays. It is a good way to keep your front door looking fresh, clean, and inviting.

Now, to make a hand painted Mother's Day doormat you will need:

1 Door Mat (I recommend those brown natural fiber doormats)

Painter' Tape

M and O Stencils

Acrylic or Exterior House paint

Round Stencil paint brush

2" and 3" Paint brushes

First, use your painter's tape to tape off a three-inched border all around the door matte. Dip your three inched paintbrush in some accent paint and start applying it to this outer edge.

You can pounce the paint on or brush it on. Just be sure to not load up the paintbrush too much or it will bleed under the painter's tape. I like to apply this board, as well as the writing, in a few light coats that are tapped on.

Now, let this border paint dry on your Mother's Day front door mat.

Once this s is dry use your stencils to lay out your MOM letter pattern on the placemat. I like to use the painter's tape to hold the stencils of M's and O in place.

Now, I also like to go ahead and paint on the Mother's Day letters a little left of center with a darker paint, but this step is optional. Let this paint dry. You should also remove the stencil M's and O and wash them.

Now, once the MOM painted on purple on the doormat has dried then replace your stencils a little to the right in their original locations. Paint home on with a different, whichever one you did not use on the board. Make sure to tape the MOM stencils in place again.

This will create a three dimensional look to your hand painted Mother's Day doormat. You can paint these letters with only one color that is up to you.

Takeaways
  • Once this s is dry use your stencils to lay out your MOM letter pattern on the placemat.
  • Let this paint dry.
