Behind the DNA Test: Results Known for Weeks; Dr. Refused to Conduct a Blood Test on Dannielynn

Can you imagine having to keep something to yourself while the entire world waits for that one little secret to finally be revealed? Dr. Michael Baird did just that. According to the DNA expert, he has known who the father of Dannielynn (the infant daughter of the late Anna Nicole Smith) is for weeks - and so did several staff members!

The DNA test took place on March 21, 2007 and was preformed by swabbing the inner cheek of Dannielynn and Larry Birkhead. A total of 8 swabs was done (4 on Dannielynn, 4 on Larry Birkhead). Dr. Michael Baird was also provided with 4 swabs from Anna Nicole Smith. The swabs was then sent to the lab for testing which started on March 22, 2007.

According to Dr. Michael Baird, the test concluded on March 26, 2007. At that time, he knew that Larry Birkhead did father Anna Nicole Smith's child. So did several workers in the lab that the test was conducted in.

"Since that time a couple of us in the laboratory have known the results but (we) really didn't make them public until I opened them in the courtroom."

The reason the results was not revealed to the media was due to a gag order in effect for all participants in the case. But one thing is for sure, that had to be one of the hardest things (keeping the results a secret) for everyone in that laboratory.

It is also known that the reason that the DNA testing was done by swabbing the inner cheeks of those involved in this case is because Dr. Michael Baird stated in court that a blood test would be way to painful for Dannielynn, since she was a infant.

Now that the paternity has been determined, the next issue will be Howard K. Stern handing over custody to Larry Birkhead. Hopefully it will go as smooth as possible for Dannielynn's sake.
