Sir Walter Raleigh was the one that first took note of the muscadines growing along the sandy shores and fields of green of South Carolina, back in the 1600's. Muscadines have been called the Grape of the South, and has a rich heritage in wine making and production. The flavor of these is a bit different, and throughout the South you can see signs for homegrown "Muscadines and Scuppernogs". They make a fine jam and jelly too. Today South Carolina has fine wines from these grapes of choice. If you want to do taste testing in South Carolina, see the wineries, and taste the vineyards finest, this is the article with the information you need.
