Kelly Clarkson Changes Seasons with Her Upcoming Record My December
Kelly Clarkson has been nonstop on top of her game for the past five years, and she's only at the start. Her sophomore album Breakaway has sold to date over 16 million copies worldwide, she took home two Grammy Awards in 2006 (on top of a ton of
other awards since Breakaways release in late 2004), she's toured four times in 2 years, there's no doubt she has been a busy diva. But she is anything but diva as I found out in a surprising phone call I received after leaving messages with her management for over a month.
At the start of my day, I was expecting anything but a response phone call from Kelly Clarkson. These past few months, Kelly has been somewhat lowkey. So I wanted to dig into for what we are in store. I first wanted to thank her for taking a few moments out of her downtime before her new single hits radio later this week. Then congradulated her on all the success of Breakaway. "Yeah, man thanks! It's been quite an experience the last 2 years," Clarkson says in her soft southern accent. However, the success of Breakaway wasn't an easy coming. "When we first recorded this album, there were songs I have been hanging onto that I wanted to put on the album. There was a big ol' fight because I wanted to write more of my own songs. I ended up changing management to The Firm and it is always a compromise with record labels. But I understand that only if my songs are better than others I will fight for [my own songs I've written]."
There's no doubt her hit single Because of You has topped the charts for over a year now. The reason for this? "More families nowadays are falling apart and it's a song I wrote when I was 16 years old. My family has been through hard times. My girlfriend and I were sitting around one night just talking about our homelife and it inspired me to write this song. It's not a poor pity me song. It's saying 'Ok, you know the problem is there, now change it.' It's something I want my fans to listen to and relate to if they feel it. Ya know, it's a cycle. Kids are like sponges and absorb everything they see their parents do." Answer? She's real. Kelly has real feelings and isn't afraid to show them.
