Indian Springs State Park in Georgia

Mineral Water of the Creek Indians

2
Beautiful Indian Springs State Park is located in Flovilla, Georgia near Interstate 75 and close to High falls State Park. Situated along an Indian Spring, a mineral spring occupied by Creek Indians until 1825 when an illegal treaty gave the US government control. It became an Official State Park in 1927 and under President Franklin D. Roosevelt the stone buildings were built. More importantly is the mineral spring which definitely has healing properties. Indian Springs State Park is the oldest Georgia State Park and nestled in the lovely the woods of Butts county.

For hundreds' of years Indians first then Whites have taken the mineral water for it's healing properties. Today you can go to the Spring House and sample the mineral water. When I was a kid one could fill not just one but several gallon jugs from artesian well. Many times the family would visit the park and picnic along the creek taking fried chicken and a complete coarse including a fresh baked pie. I have played in the creek, visited the museum, picnic along the spring and tasted the sulfur tasting mineral water. The Indians used the mineral water to heal the sick and energize the well. We thought nothing of drinking from the spring or filling jugs from the pipe at the Spring House. Now one can play mini golf, hike, see the museum and more. Activities for children include but not limited too: insect identification and collection, plants and animals of the park, water and wildlife conservation. A wonderful place to visit for kids and adults. A park map shows everything from campgrounds, the lake, spring and showers.
