According to statistics approximately 6,420,000 cars are involved in accidents in 2005. These accidents cost more than 230 billion dollars. There were an estimated 2.9 million cases of injury; 42,636 of the accidents resulted to deaths. On the average, about 115 people die every day or 1 in every 13 minutes due to crashes of motor vehicles. These astounding figures represent the car accidents in the United States alone! On the average 3,000 people worldwide die due to car crashes every day (World Health Organization).Car accident is one of the major causes of deaths nowadays. In fact, teenagers are more prone to accidents than adults; this is due to lack of driving experiences. They can commit mistakes easier due to lack of discipline and focus. Adults and youngsters alike must then be cautious to avoid unnecessary accidents on the streets. Here are 10 simple guidelines to help you avoid car accidents:
1. Identify the limit of your car and keep it in good shape before you leave for a trip. Observe how your car reacts on particular situations. It is also important to familiarize yourself with the car's tires and brakes so that you will know how long it will take you to stop when applying a maximum pressure. Having quite expensive yet durable tires is far better than buying cheap tires which can cause you a lot of trouble while driving.
2. Alertness must be exhibited when passing through Intersections. The normal act when you are the 1st person in line is to stare blankly on the red light of the stoplight and punch the gas once it turns to green. It is advisable to look both ways quickly before proceeding. You can get hit by an oncoming car if you will rush through an intersection without looking both ways.
