A few years ago, I needed a root canal and a lot of fillings. Not to mention that all four of my wisdom teeth had to be extracted. It took many appointments to fix my teeth. The dentist office staff was starting to seem like friends because I was there so much. After having my teeth fixed, there was only one thing left to do---whiten my teeth. The dentist advised against it since my white fillings matched my teeth so perfectly. I reluctantly agreed with him and gave up on the idea.

But then a year ago, I got to thinking again about whitening my teeth. After all, everyone else was doing it. I bugged my dentist again, and he recommended that I use Crest White Strips. He explained that the amount of the whitening agent is lower in the Crest White Strips than what he uses on his patients. This was a good thing because it meant that the strips wouldn't whiten as much and cause my fillings to be visible.

As the commercials show, the strips are really convenient to use. I used them while I chatted on the internet with my online friends. But the second time I used them, it hit me ---intense pain.

I felt a shooting pain in my mouth that was worse than when my wisdom teeth were infected. It was so painful, I felt light-headed and dizzy. I couldn't imagine what the problem might be as I had never heard of anyone having this problem with the whitening strips. I removed them and brushed my teeth to remove the gunk that the strips leave behind. Immediately, the pain went away.

Feeling brave, I tried the strips again two days later. And it happened again---intense pain. I contacted my dentist office and they said that some people are sensitive to the whitening agent in the strips. Sensitive? I was so far passed sensitive that the suggestion was laughable.

At my next six month check up, I told my dentist that I apparently had a cavity. And I explained my problems with the Crest White Strips. Like his receptionist, he didn't believe that the strips would make a cavity hurt. Well, I had a cavity, and he filled it at a later appointment.

I've used the white strips before..I think about a year ago. I really like using them because they actually work great! Well now my teeth are starting to get a little yellow, so I figured it was time for a touch up. I put the top strip on and it was completely painless, but a few seconds after applying the bottom strip, an intense shooting pain in one area began. I've never felt pain this bad in my life!! It felt as if it went way down from my tooth to my gum into my chin. ouch! I've had the strip on for a couple minutes and now the pain is slightly more dull, but if i suck in air the pain starts again. I hope I dont have a cavity but it's so centralized that I just might. Good thing my routine dentist appointment is only a week away.

I tried the Crest Whitestrips and had the same stabbing pain--almost like an electric shock that went from my teeth straight to my brain! It was excruciating and I couldn't get the strips off fast enough. Even after brushing my teeth, I continued to get shocks periodically for the rest of the day, although not as severe. Fortunately, I contacted Crest and they refunded my money for the Whitestrips. About a year later I summoned the courage to try the sensitive formula. They hurt too, but it was more bearable and within a week I could see an improvement in my teeth. I didn't use the strips for very long, though, because with each passing day it seemed the pain was getting worse. I'd say I did them for about 8 days, twice a day. I would like to try them again, but it seems that Crest no longer makes the sensitive teeth formula whitestrips. I don't know why and wonder if anyone can recommend a comparable product.

Ineresting~I had no idea that using the white strips with a cavity would cause that much pain. Good to know!
