Weighing the Pros and Cons of Weight Loss Surgery
Is weight loss surgery a good tool for successful and long lasting weight management? Like any tool it matters how it is used. A knife is a tool that can be used to chop up food or it could otherwise harm someone depending on its use.
There are cases of people who have lost vast amounts of weight after having Bariatric surgery otherwise known as weight loss surgery only to regain part of it. Before someone decides to go the surgery route, one needs to be able to commit to lifelong change
to have lasting results. It is up to the individual to decide what is the best option for them. Bariatric surgery is still major surgery with risks and possible complications. It is an option that should be carefully considered. It may be best as a last resort after exhausting other options.
Weight loss surgery not all about vanity even though a person can fit into smaller, trendier clothes with weight loss. If someone chooses to have surgery to lose weight, they may be in for more operating room visits than they expected. There are some results from initial weight loss surgery that may lead to more surgery because of excess skin from fast weight loss.
There are different types of weight loss surgery or gastric bypass surgery. There is Roux N Y which is either done with a large vertical incision across the stomach or there is gastric bypass surgery done laparscopically. There is also the Lap-band which is less risky because the stomach is not actually cut. They make a small incision and place a band around the top of the stomach. It keeps a person from eating more than stomach above the band can hold at a time. If more food is eaten than the smaller part of the stomach can hold it causes a person to vomit. Some foods do not digest well after gastric bypass surgery and should be avoided. Chewing your food well is also important in digestion.
