How to Host Your Own Renaissance Faire!
"Medieval Fun for Almost No Cost!"
It's that time of year again. Everyone is dressing up in costume, buckling on their swords, and heading off to "Ye Olde Renaissance Faire" (or whatever the name might be in your town). However with the economy as shaky as it is, fewer and fewer of us can afford to hand over twenty bucks for a day at the fair. Not to mention the extra dollars handed over if you're bringing the kids along. Or the over-priced food.
So what do you do if you're a history lover who just can't resist a day surrounded by other people who love medieval costume as much as you do? Simple! You do it yourself!
First of all you'll need to locate appropriate premises. Ideally, your own lawn will do, although if that comprises of about three square feet, then perhaps you'll be better off getting some friends in on the plan as well. Ideally large lawn works best, with trees for hanging decorations and gardens for photo opps.
Next step (if you didn't accomplish this in step one) is getting friends involved. If you're going to have a 'faire' of any size, you'll need additional tables, chairs, tablecloths, and probably a good many other things as well. But if you're the type of person to read this article, then you probably have friends who will be more than interested in helping you create some low-budget medieval fun.
The first thing they can help you out with is determining appropriate decorations for your yard of choice. A renaissance festival just isn't complete without looking pretty. Track down left over birthday streamers, long lightweight clothes for draping, medieval weaponry, candles, Christmas tree lights, fake and real flowers, etc (see upcoming article on "Decorating Your Home Renaissance Faire" for more details).
- Have medieval fun for almost no cost!
- A cheap way to entertain and delight your friends!
- An interactive family project to get the kids involved in history!
