After a week of controversy, Don Imus was dropped from MSNBC. His television show Imus in the Morning has been one of the most highly rated morning shows on television. It has been one week since the controversy exploded in which Imus referred to the Rutgers University women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos."

NBC had initially stated that Imus would be suspended for two weeks while they further investigated the matter. However, when several major sponsors, including Staples, General Motors, Sprint Nextel, GlaxoSmithKline, Procter & Gamble, PetMed Express, American Express and Bigelow Tea pulled their advertisements from his show, NBC changed its mind and dropped Imus completely. CBS radio continues to employ Imus, and is currently standing by the original plan to suspend him for two weeks while they continue to investigate the matter further.

The firing comes after pressure to do so came from many high profile groups and individuals. Senator Barack Obama expressed his belief that Imus should be removed, saying that Imus's racist comment was exactly the type of harmful discrimination that his two young daughters have to face in America today. Another demand for Imus to be dropped from NBC came from the Today Show weatherman Al Roker, who wrote a commentary on the show's website.

Several high profile groups, such as the National Organization for Women, the Feminist Majority, and the Reverand Al Sharpton called for his dismissal.

Imus had apologized publicly for his comment, which was perceived by many as racist and sexist. He had also agreed to meet face to face with women from the Rutger's basketball team to apologize in person and discuss the issue. The meeting had been arranged after the team requested to meet with Imus to hear an apology directly from him rather than simply seeing it on television. The meeting was yet to happen when MSNBC decided to fire Imus.

Is it good to see the USA becoming more and more communistically repressive with every passing moment? How much more totalitarianism will people be burdened with before the final end? When ANY repression of freedom of speech occurs, everyone suffers. There seems to be no end to the accelerating level of totalitarian repression suffered on the citizens of the USA and the world. No one even considers the inherent advantages of freedom for the sake of freedom anymore. All anyone seems to want is fewer freedoms for "the other guy". Eventually, we are all the repressed "other guy". Is there a country that offers freedom from the oppression in the USA, allowing immigration on the basis of being a refugee from the persecution of all to all in the USA?

It's Obvious YOU PEOPLE, lack the ability and nobility to comprehend raciest comments that was not directed at you. You probably think racism doesn't even exist don't you? Stop me of you've heard this one before. What do you call a black man with a PhD? The black rappers can't take credit for that one can they? The originators of hate now wonder why we hate. It's not just his comments but his state of mind at issue here. Accountability and responsibility...think about it.

ok, rap artists don't need to be blamed for a senile idiot not watching what he says. And that stands for ANY idiot, ANY race, creed, or color.

MSNBC's conduct is shameful. Same for Hillary et al. Talk about ambulance chasers! These Duke girls will not all stand up to the additional scrutiny these bloodsuckers have sent their way. I hope Imus invites the girls and their coach to the ranch.

perhaps if black rap artist didn'nt keep these terms in mainstream pop culture by continualy using them in thier lyrics.....why dos'nt this common usage enrage certain "groups"..is it then ok to use these terms..as long as you are a member of the ethnicity that finds them offensive?...the man was repeating whats said every minute of everyday in rap music on the radio

if a black man had pointed out that them hoes had nappy heads people would have been scared not to laugh in fear of being labeled racist. But because a white man with a cowboy hat says it then people choose to pretend like he was not just saying what he said, which was uncalled for but by it was no racial slur.
