Thanksgiving weekend can actually make a great time for a wedding. Everyone is in town or traveling anyway, and you can have your wedding after the big day, while everyone is still enjoying the party. It is even possible put together a Thanksgiving wedding sans turkey motifs. All you need is a little creativity.

Thanksgiving colors are the colors of autumn. Rust, burgundy, brown, tan, gold, dark orange, and yellow are all colors that can be used for a Thanksgiving themed wedding. Light blue accents can add to the overall feel and look of your wedding. While flowers are not commonly used in autumn, fall flowers like mums, yarrow, daises, and roses can be used along with colored leaves to create decorations and bouquets. Add pheasant feathers, tallow berries, and dried wheat to your autumn bridal bouquet for a more complete look.

An elegant dress in off-white or cream make the order of the day. Gold beading and/or embroidery can add to the look. Small yarrow sprigs or mums can add a nice touch to the hair. Try to avoid actually using fall leaves in the hair, as it looks untidy. An elegant little capelet can add to the look of your wedding dress, and also provide extra warmth if the day is cool. The groom should be outfitted in a suit or tux with a waistcoat or cummerbund made from velvet or brocade. This looks luxurious, and will complement the bride.

Decorations for a Thanksgiving wedding include groups of gourds and pumpkins placed around the room. Wheat sheaves can also be used. Pumpkins do come in natural white or blue, and this can add a unique flair to the look of the room. Centerpieces can include a variety of options. Cornucopias filled with seasonal produce and plants make very nice centerpieces.
