Death, Disorganization, and Drunkeness Abound Detroit's Metro Airport
Yet another incident at Detroit Metro Airport involving an ASIG employee headline's Detroit news this
morning. Just 2 days after 18 year old Dorian Powell was killed after being hit by a tug on the ramp of Detroit's Metro Airport, an underage ASIG employee flips a deicer and is fired. The unnamed male had blown well over the Michigan legal limit of .08 after having flipped the deicer. He was found to be carrying and unopened can of beer in his pocket, while 1 remained inside the vehicle. To make matters worse, the male was under 21..the state's legal drinking age.
The young man was held overnight in the custody of Wayne County Airport Police in their holding facility. After having been seen driving the deicer erradically , fellow employees of the young man had notified authorities. Airport officials stated that his supervisor had been planning on following him onto the airfield prior to the deicer's flipping.
The young man will be charged with both driving while under the influence as well as underage drinking and will be unable to ever be re-employed at Detroit's Metro Airport. Fortunately he was not in area where any passeneger's saftey could have been compromised.
In addition to the accidental death of 18 year old Dorian Powell on Monday, the airport has also experienced two other incidents involving flight crew and Customs. One of which was an incident involving passengers being stuck on a plane due to unruly behavior of a pilot and his heated cell phone conversation. The other reported incident involved a Spirit Airlines flight earlier this week that was stuck stranded on the tarmac for 7 hours, due to a lack of Customs officials to check them in after having arrived back from Cancun Mexico.
Detroit's Metro Airport is one of the central hubs for many international flights with Northwest Airlines and it's sky partners flying to Japan, Amsterdam, Britain, as well as various other international locations.
