Google and Yahoo are the top two search engines used on the web. My preference of search engine is Google because it is user-friendly and has a simple, uncluttered look. Google continues to gain popul
arity as the web search leader with 64% market share of all queries by U.S. Internet users. Second in popularity, with 22% of market share, is Yahoo. Yahoo has some different features and a different look, if you prefer having various news information and use Yahoo mail and/or messenger, and the button look. What you may not know about Google and Yahoo is that these search engines provide shortcuts that make it even easier to locate the information you are looking for. These shortcuts, some the same whether you use Google or Yahoo, are very convenient.
You use a shortcut by simply entering a simple phrase in the search box as a quick way to get the information you want. For example, to get a quick picture of the weather in your area, type weather and your zip code or city in the search box, and you will get the current temperature and graphics of forecasted conditions for the next four days. To find a business listing or specific type of restaurant, for example, pizza, type pizza and your zip code or dominos and your zip code. You will get a complete listing with name, address and phone number plus a map. If know the area code but may not know the location, or want to see a map of the area of that phone number, simply type the area code and you will see the location and can click to get a map of that area code. Google also works as a calculator! You can enter mathematical equations such as 1002.10-506.32 and Google will give you the answer.
There are many different shortcuts you can use to cut down on your Google search time. On the table below, you will find a list of the most popular, useful and interesting ones. As you explore using Google shortcuts, I am sure you will find some new ones that will be of benefit to you.
