Macromedia Fireworks: How to Create a Black and White Striped Picture Frame

In this Macromedia Fireworks Tutorial I will show you how to create a black and white striped picture frame. Please see the image that I have provided to see what this picture frame looks like. This frame is really cool looking and it is not hard to create. The only difficult part is adjusting the g 
radient but I will walk you through that in detail. Open your Fireworks program and we will get started.
How to Create a Black and White Striped Picture Frame in Fireworks
First, we will need to create a new canvas to work on. Go to the top of your Fireworks window and click File > New to create a new canvas. When the New Document window comes up enter 500 pixels by 500 pixels for your canvas size. You can crop your canvas at the end if you need too. Select the canvas color that you need and click the OK button.
Next, we will draw the picture frame. We will draw the frame using the auto shapes in Fireworks. Go to the top of your window and click Windows > Auto Shapes. When the auto shapes window comes up, click the brown frame in the window and drag it to your canvas.
You will need to reshape the frame the way that you want it. You can reshape it by dragging the yellow diamonds. I made the middle of my frame wider and made the border smaller.
Next, we will apply a gradient to give it the black and white striped look. Click on the frame to select it. Then click the Pattern box in the Properties window. When the box drops down, click Gradient > Folds. Then click the Color box beside the gradient box to change the color. Click the arrow on the left and change the color to Black. Click the arrow on the right and change the color to White. Move to arrow on the right to the center of the box. That will apply the gradient effect to the button. Click off of the box to close it.
Now we will need to move the line on the frame to get the striped look. Click on your frame and you will see the line. Grab the square end of the line and turn it so that it is pointing straight down. That will make the gradient lines go straight across the frame.
