After the long wait from critics and anti-racist supporters, CBS finally canceled Don Imus' radio show, which is effective immediately after he had made sexist and racist comments about the elite Rutger's women's basketball team.

CBS President and Chief Executive Officer, Leslie Moonves told the press about the decision: ""From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent," said CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves, in announcing the decision."

CBS's decision came exactly one day after network NBC Universal left Imus, resulting in the cancellation of his show on the ever-popular MSNBC.

After his on-air slurs were heard, Imus "apologized enough" according to himself. It also added that he would not go on some talk show tour about the incident or will not "go talk to Larry King of Barbara Walters or anyone else". He realizes he could use this as a ironic fame-booster.

Imus has repeatedly apologized and even hoped to meet with the Rutger's team personally and privately, but no such meeting has taken place or even has been scheduled to happen. He refered to the team as "nappy-headed-hos" when the team lost the NCAA basketball championship to U of Tenn. "Nappy-headed-hos" refered to the African American players in a racist and sexist way.

NBC and CBS realize that losing Imus will do their corporations good, not bad, as Imus hit a nerve that should not have been hit. It not only offended his employers, but many of his listeners, and especially the Rutger's team who were completely innocent. NBC and CBS believe there will be no regrets.

There is still a wait on the meeting between Imus and the team in hopes of a formal apology directly from Imus.

the next couple years from fallout of this I think you will wake up to see that we are living in a society that is way more "conservative" than it is now and how it used to be. I for one like my freedoms and will fight to keep every one of them. It started with the Superbowl "nipple slip" and it's been spiralling downhill since.

I don't know Imus's background but on tv last night they were saying that he was one of the original "shock jocks" so how can this surprise anyone especially Sundance? Sundance you say you admired him but if he was one of the original shock jocks surely you have heard him say worse than this? As for Howard Stern he was forced to satellite radio. I used to listen to him alot. I think a certain type of person, race of people etc can only be the victim if they allow themselves to be. Howard degrades women to the fullest yet he has a huge following including women. Why? If I allow what Howards says about women to make me a victim, then it is me making myself the victim, not Howard. He does it for humor, I'm assuming that was what Imus was doing it for also. My problem is the same problem that the NRA and gun owners problem is. Start taking away one part of a right and then it's easier to take away another and another. If you look at the big picture here and watch what comes in th

As I said before Im glad they fired him, but what about the others who do the same thing. Howard Stern is no better. He makes fun of women UNLESS they are 105lbs of skin and bone. He degrades them like no other, yet he is still on the air. There are countless others that do it as well.Freedom of speech YES, but Freedom of Insults, NO..

Who's calling who racist? Imus simply crossed the line, that's all. He said something that nobody should ever say, and he got what was coming for him. Paid the price, even. Hate speech like that should not even be on the air, period. CBS, MSNBC et al should be praised for standing up for moral values. Therefre, it's not a free speech issue, but an issue of what is tolerable in society.

Rhonda, I'm sorry but you are wrong. Imus accepted the responsibility of being allowed to speak over the airwaves. As a broadcaster heard by millions, he should have known better. When I learned broadcasting many years ago I admired Imus. His remarks have made me pity and despise him. The national airwaves are no place for that kind of talk and Imus was negligent in his responsibilities. There was no other option than to fire him. Besides, from the picture in this article it appears he can use some time off.

How many times is this guy going to get fired? I have to agree with Rhonda, anyway it was a good article =)

Very scarey to see how fast this all happened. Before we know it we will be living in a society where no one can say anything without being scared something may happen to them. It is very disturbing to see that Al and Jesse has so much power over all of this. And he was only fired because of the bad publicity the sponsors were getting that caused them to pull out. If the advertisers didn't leave he'd still have a job. What he said was stupid but he should not have lost all his jobs because of it. I didn't see the piece but I heard it was said as a joke, what if it was a black woman who said it? It would have been perfectly fine and normal. This isn't about Imus it's about who will be next? And for what?

Seriously Im glad they fired him.. Way over-rated if you ask me :-)

It's good to see that known racists like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have so much clout.
