How to Find a Florist for Your Destination Wedding
Destination weddings are great fun for the bride and groom and the invited friends and family, but they do take an extra measure of research and planning up front.
After selecting the ideal wedding destination, pulling together all of the plans takes more research than a wedding in your home town. If you are getting married locally, you probably already have a good idea of who the local florists are. The florists with good local reputations are probably the same ones that your friends and family have used for their special events.
A destination wedding is held at a remote, usually exotic location. The bride and groom may or may not have been there previously. In a destination wedding, the need for reliable referrals is even more important than a local wedding.
After selecting the wedding venue, the reservations for the chapel and banquet hall or restaurant should be made. After the date is selected, the florists can be contacted. There is no use in contacting the florist before the date is known, as they may not even be available for certain dates if they have other engagements.
Chances are that a wedding coordinator is helping with the arrangements at a remote location. The wedding coordinator is a great resource for the local vendors for flowers, photography and music. If you aren't working with a wedding coordinator, can ask for referrals from the other vendors that you talk to. If talking to a photographer, for example, ask the photographer for a recommendation for a florist.
Once you have the names of a few good florists, call and talk to them. Have some questions prepared in advance so that you are asking similar questions of each florist giving a better basis for comparison. Following are suggested topics to discuss with the florists, from the book "the Everything Destination Wedding Book" by Shelly Hagen:
Are you familiar with my ceremony and reception site? It is helpful if the florist has worked in the venue before so they have a good idea of what works best in the space.
