A Writer by Presumption

I am a presumptuous human being. As a child I found the adage, "children are meant to be seen and not heard" to be the most ignorant and vulgar nonsense. I like to speak my mind. Of course I am not a quick-witted person and often become easily side tracked in verbal discussion or debate, so I write.
Writing allows me to organize my thoughts, compose my words and say what I really mean in the best language of which I am capable. The advent of blogging on the technological scene allows me to share my work with the world.

I hold many opinions and I form many judgments. I believe that, provided you have some idea of what you are talking about, it is an act of moral cowardice not to judge. Perhaps one of my greatest beefs with the world today is the failure of people to judge the world and events around them. In my articles I express and will continue to express many opinions. Some of these opinions will be unpopular and will surely draw criticism and insult-as they have in the past. What I can assure you, valued reader, is that all opinions expressed in my articles are my own.

Sometimes I am wrong. I'm not afraid to be wrong. I don't think any less of myself as a human being because I made a mistake. If you provide me with sufficient evidence as to why you think that I am wrong, I might just change my mind and then you will have helped me become a wiser person. I've always hated the stupid corporate saying that "failure is not an option." Failure is perhaps the greatest teaching tool that there is-just ask Thomas Edison. Edison made thousands of abortive attempts to craft the light bulb before finally deciding on a Tungsten filament in a glass vacuum. As I mentioned before, I try to know what I am talking about when I write something but in the cases where I act like a fool and make sweeping generalizations, call me out on it. I am not afraid of appearing foolish; it has happened before and will undoubtedly happen again.

  • The internet has created a "Brave New World" in which ideas can be shared to anincredible degree.
  • I am a writer by presumption. I have never asked anyone's permission to express my ideas.
  • Writing allows me to organize my thoughts, compose my words in my best language.

Keep writing Richard. I have been away, and have not had access to a computer. My mailbox is filled with emails but I saw that you had just published and decided to click on this article to read it before going to work. I'm not logged one. So what? I make lots of mistakes in my writing as you probably have noted, bear with me I am a work in progress. You are correct in your statement, (this is a great medium for writers) if we are interested in being heard. I did not agree with you about the "Isolation" article because I believe the isolation you are feel is self imposed. However, you put it out there and everyone had a chance to voice an opinion on the subject. Not just the self-appointed (agents and publishers) who feel that they are the ones to decide what others should read or not read. Your writing has a great flow, keep doing it!! Keep boggin!!
