If you've ever used a computer for a given amount of time, chances are you've created a file. This can be pictures, a word document, a music file, or anything else. In the case of special files that you have, that you don't want to loose but rather keep forever, follow these tips and you'll increase
your chances in making them last in your possession as long as possible:
Save Them on Multiple Disks
One of the best ways to save your music files, pictures, or anything else is to put then on disk or CD. Go to Wal-Mart or any computer or electronic store to purchase for your self writable CD's. They will have ones writable for DVDs, CD-ROMs, and Music CDS. After you've purchased the one(s) you need, take them home and save your files onto them. It is much better to save them this way rather than just leaving them on your computer because there are possibilities your computer could become infected with a virus. However, if you save them onto a special disk now and even save them in multiple disks, whatever happens to your computer will not affect them.
Give Them to Multiple People
Find someone that you trust and know that will be around for a while. Mail or give them one of your disks and ask them to keep them for you. Find even more if you like, as more than one person is better than one. This will increase your chances in keeping your files much longer.
Save Them as Email Attachments
Another secret to keeping your old files is to send them as email attachments to either those that you trust and even yourself. You can use hotmail, gmail, yahoo mail...in which allows you to store large mounts of space for your free email service. These files can stay in your email and in any others' as long as you like. Some services will automatically delete your email if you don't use it after so and so months. However, you can still send them to multiple individuals that you trust, and at the same time, make sure it is an email address that you use frequently.
