The Liver Controls Your Health and Longevity and Your Ability to Bounce Back from Infection

The liver is the largest gland of the body, weighing about 1.5 kg.

In some countries, the liver is deemed so important to health that instead of a groom promising his heart in case of unfortunate circumstances, he promises his liver! It could just about b
e called your fountain of youth or your lifeline. You will look as old or as young as your liver is clean - it figures into anti-aging big time.

So why should you be interested in your liver function? Why is it more interesting than flossing teeth?

The liver can do 500 functions - that's some multitasking! This is one powerful organ, the one organ in the body that is capable of regenerating itself.

Unfortunately, in this day and age with all the pollution in the air and food, the liver is being asked to take on TOO MUCH. There's hardly a person alive that would not benefit from a liver cleanse. Why? The liver helps clean the blood, and helps remove all the pollutants before they get all over our bodies. Now that there are many pollutants in everything we do, voila, liver issues!

The liver removes dead or damaged blood cells from circulation, just like the government would remove damaged money from circulation. Why is this important, you ask? Well, because the blood nourishes every body system. If your blood is unhealthy, you will be too.

Just a FEW of the house cleaning tasks that the liver carries out in its workday are:

1) Storage of vitamins, minerals, and sugars. What if we couldn't store them? What if we became deficient if we didn't have enough of something one day?
2) Filter your blood and remove harmful substances. If it becomes overloaded and can no longer keep up, your blood becomes full of toxins, and you will feel terrible. With every beat of the heart, 25% of the blood goes to the liver to be filtered. If you live in the United States, you are being bombarded with processed foods with artificial flavorings and colorings and preservatives. The liver has to really work at filtering when we eat non-foods like this.
3) Store extra blood for emergencies. Being prepared can be a lifesaver!

  • Your ability to fight infections comes partly from the strength of your liver.
  • The liver helps to control blood sugar.
  • 25% of the blood goes through the liver after each heartbeat.

My gosh, where did that hostility come from? To answer ashley's question very simply put is that a malfunctioning liver will lead to death. Now I had a failing liver which began to cause many different parts of my body to break down into further disease states. Examples would be conditions where my blood was never properly cleansed and toxic compounds built up to high levels causing my brain to malfuntion to the point where I caused a four car automobile accident and burned a house down. The failing liver also affected my breathing ability by creating a diseased state called hepatopulmonary syndrome that would have caused my death very quickly had I not been so lucky as to receive a liver transplant in a timely fashin. After my liver transplant I feel so much better. NEVER TAKE YOUR LIVER FOR GRANTED.

TO ASHLEY TISDALE: who may never actually see this comment, anyway: There's nothing wrong with my article as it provides plenty of useful information for anyone who is bright enough to read, but there is something wrong with your level of education. What you said makes you sound very ignorant, and your usage of language makes it sound like you are very ghetto. I pity you because your parents never taught you to be polite and you derive your fun out of poking fun at people trying to make a honest living through their writing. I wonder if you even know where the liver is on the human body or what it does to keep you alive and well. By the way, it's called an article, not a web page! A three page one as a matter of fact!

The liver is indeed an amazing organ. This website is interesting as well as informative. If you don't understand this website, then don't curse and use foul language to put it down. That only makes you look like you come from the gutter.

The liver is indeed an amazing organ. The information on this website is very useful and informative. If you don't understand what this website talks about, then go and get some schooling. Cursing and using foul language only speaks of your inability to comprehend the written word and that perhaps you live in a sewer. Thank you!

The topic of the liver is indeed important. Without a liver, we could not live. If you are going to make comments for the world to see, please don't swear and use curse words that will make you look like you belong in the sewer! Thank you.

Our liver is indeed a workhorse. Probably more important in some ways than our skin or heart. The trio of organs that make us survive. Thanks for sharing this information.
