Tracfone: Inexpensive Prepaid Wireless Phones
Tracfone's are an inexpensive phone that is the biggest advantage to choosing them as your prepaid wireless carrier. They have phones as cheap as $10 dollars and have deals for $19.99 for a phone and
two 60 unit cards.
Their most expensive phone is actually $99.99 and it is not the phone you are paying for but a year card that is 400 units that comes with a free phone. I doubt that 400 units will really last a year for most people but it is still an incredible deal.
They have three $15 dollar phones including 2 Motorola phones and a Nokia phone all with slightly different features but yet pretty much the same. Their phones are pretty simple they only offer one camera phone and the phones are not real complex none of them are capable of much comparatively with other companies.
They have another deal that if you pay $129.99 you can get a double minute 450 unit card and a camera phone free with those minutes. This seems like a wonderful deal and they claim that with any double minute card you then get double minutes for life. This means that the rest of the cards you buy as refills on this phone or any other phone would then be worth double the minutes. This is a very seductive offer if only they offered more benefits in the way they charge.
The biggest problem I see with these phones is the way they charge minutes. They charge 3 units for long distance, 1.5 units when you are roaming, and 1 for local calls. Text messaging rates range depending on what phone model you have.
All models include free call waiting, caller id, and voice mail and have the ability to text message. The cards you can buy range from $9.99-$99.99 and range in units from 30-400. There are no free nights and weekends or free mobile to mobile. However they do have things like wallpaper and screensavers on the phones that is on almost every phone for their competitors.
