Many high school graduates enroll in a junior college. There are different reasons for this. Some don't have the credits needed to enroll in a university. Some just want to start out at a junior coll
ege to get used to the ways of college before they go on to a four-year college. Others only go because their parents require it of them if they want to continue living at home. The question however, is if junior college is even worth the time and effort that is put into it.
It depends on the person. For those who need to go to a four-year university but can't until they complete junior college, then it is necessary to go to a junior college. However, they need to be highly motivated. At times it can feel as if they are wasting their time but they need to keep their eyes on their goal if they are going to succeed. If they think about the fact that they are moving towards getting into the college they want and the degree they want and the job and lifestyle they want then they can do it easily. If they focus on the fact that they have to spend extra time at a junior college that doesn't even offer their major then they will get discouraged and stop doing what they need to do to get out of junior college and onto bigger and better things.
What about those who just want a taste of college before they move onto a university? This can be worth it, but is not necessarily so. If the person really wants to prepare themselves for college they need to act as if it is the real thing. They need to work as hard and as diligently as they would if they were already at a four year university. If they have the mind set that this is just a trial run that doesn't really matter then they won't work hard and they won't do well and it will have been a waste of a semester or a year or more depending on how long they stay.
