Group one: Spiders, clowns, heights. These are all normal fears. Group two: Vampires, werewolves, aliens. These are all abnormal fears. Sadly, my fear belongs in group two. No, I'm not afraid of werewolves, Dracula or Marvin the Martian. It's much sillier than that. Zombies. Yes America, I fear the
undead. I'm terrified that numerous corpses will rise from the dirt, head straight for my house, burst through the front door and munch on my brain. I understand that this isn't logical. It can't be explained. Wait...maybe it can.
It all began years ago. I was eight, and my sister was seven. She told me about this hilarious movie that she had seen the night before.
"It's so crazy, Julie. It's about people coming back from the dead and hunting people down, and eating them! Isn't that insane?" she asked me.
She seemed pretty okay with the idea of this movie. I, on the other hand was not cool with it.
"Can't it really happen? Was it based on true events?" I asked her. Maybe terror really does start at home.
"You're so Gullible, Jules. It would never happen here. China, maybe. Don't freak out. It's only a movie." Those were the words that I would repeat while dealing with my fear of the movie, 'Night Of the Living Dead'.
As soon as my sister left the room, I ran for cover underneath my mom's blanket. I felt as if I had been left out of some huge secret. Once my parents got off from work I demanded to know the truth.
"Tell me the truth. Can the things that happened in that movie, happen in real life?!" I screeched.
"No, don't worry about. Your sister should not be telling you things like this." My mom tried to comfort but it didn't work. Although, I did get some pleasure out of the fact that my sister was punished for scaring me. But much to my horror, I had a nightmare that night about zombies.
