Homemade Dog Toys

Pamper Your Pooch

It's common knowledge that dogs love to play. Older dogs as well as puppies love to tackle stuffed animals, play tug-o-war, and they enjoy chewing for hours on end. Toys for dogs can be just as expensive as toys for kids, but fortunately, dogs are much easier to please than kids. You can
give your four-legged family member homemade toys that will keep him content and very entertained. Consider making the following homemade toys for your very special dog. Your pampered pooch will thank you will lots of kisses, and you'll save a great deal of money on homemade toys he'll truly appreciate.

Note of Precaution

As with any toy, supervise your dog during play, and occasionally inspect toys for damage. To prevent choking or the ingestion of parts, discard any toys that begin to deteriorate. Use common sense to keep your dog safe when providing him with store-bought playthings as well as homemade toys.

Tug-O-War Tennis Ball

Does your dog like to play tug-o-war? You can make the ultimate homemade tug-o-war toy using a thick cotton rope and a tennis ball. Simply drill a hole completely through a tennis ball, and thread the rope through both sides of the ball. Securely knot both ends of the rope, and you have a very inexpensive homemade tug-o-war toy that is just as good or better than similar toys sold in stores.

Summertime Outdoor Toy

If you have a large dog that likes to play with empty 16-ounce plastic bottles, give him the ultimate homemade summertime toy. Begin by securely wrapping an empty 16-ounce plastic bottle with duct tape. Fill the bottle about ¾ of the way with water, tightly place the cap on the bottle, and wrap the bottle cap with duct tape before putting in the freezer. After the water is frozen, give this very cool homemade summertime toy to your dog. He'll love tossing it around and chewing on the bottle as the ice melts inside.

My puppy, Bindi, will love this!!! She's an Australian Shepherd mix and literally guts the stuffing out of the stuffed animals we get her!! It will be all over the house. She will even tear tennis balls into tiny pieces! (She doesn't eat them, thankfully!) I'm going to go and make one for her right now. Earlier today i rolled paper into a cylinder and covered it in duct tape and put three bells in it and in twenty minutes it was in pieces and one of the bells was bent! (She may sound like a devilish dog but i can tell you the honest to goodness truth, she is the biggest baby you will ever meet,...until it comes to play time!!) ; ) Thanks for the idea!
