Bronx 1st Graders Drawing to Be on Millions of Ketchup Packets

A 6 Year Old from the Bronx Has Won the Heinz Ketchup Creativity Contest and His Design Will Grace More Then 16 Million Ketchup Packets!

6 year old first grader Carlton Mazyck of P. S. 121 in the Bronx has beat out some 15,000 nation wide entries in the Heinz ketchup creativity contest. Carlton's unique and colorful design of a classic Heinz ketchup bottle under a spacious desert sky flanked by snakes and cactus's will grace some 16 million new ketchup packets nation wide. The winning of the contest has brought this artistic young tyke instant celebrity amongst his fellow first graders. Carlton has always loved doodling and drawing teachers said at a ceremony honoring the young lads achievement. "children need to succeed in as many ways as possible." said Carlton's principal Rachel Donnelly in response to her pupils victory. Carlton's art teacher Elaine Chiamulera prompted her students to enter the contest and since winning the contest the former academically struggling Carlton has skyrocketed in every subject. It would appear that before the contest the only thing lacking in the boy was confidence in his abilities. Since then however both his confidence and number of drawings have increased exponentially. "Art really builds up his self-esteem. And he has really grown a lot as a student." Said teacher Marissa Mckinney.

Carlton's victory has also netted his school $750 in art supplies and another $750 in Heinz ketchup. This is expected to go over quite well with the art department and his fellow classmates in the cafeteria at lunch time. Carlton is among eleven other winners nationwide who will also be featured on some 200 million ketchup packets to be used in schools and restaurants in all 50 states.
