My fiancée is wholly enamored with the television show "Grey's Anatomy" - she's even watching their special "recap of the last three years hosted by that dead character, Denny (Jeffery Dean
Morgan) who Izzy (Katharine Heigl) was in love with" as I write this. But as a trained actress who's been acting in real drama and contemporary theatre and movies for six years now, I'm a little puzzled. She graduated college Cum Laude, studied at Williamstown Theatre Festival the summer after college with Lewis Black and Michael Greif among others, and I thought she had always been something of an acting snob, until I uncovered this gluttonous weak spot.

Williamstown is a respected place for dramatic actors to go and show off their wares. But her roots in the craft of acting run even deeper than that. Our professor, Sal, in all of our acting classes was/is an old New York actor. A proponent of Stanislavski and "method" acting, he could spot a phoney a mile away; theatrical honesty is what's missing from these characters, in my estimation, due in large part to a theatrical un-reality that Sal probably would frown upon.

Another great experience we had while still in college was the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland to which we both went and participated in. This is where the greats of the theatre world, directors, designers, writers, and actors alike all go to show off their best and this is where audiences and participants alike go to see some of the best, most cutting edge, most well respected performance in the world as they have for almost 60 years.

But after all that, I feel she's getting a little lazy. Her tastes for quality have mellowed; no where is this more exacerbated than in Grey's Anatomy. The acting is bad, the people are beautiful, the plot lines are predictable, the stories are outrageous. They've taken everything that's been innovative and good about the last twenty years in television and mashed it all together like some stupid soap opera. I'm not a very angry guy, but there are a number of things about this program that are offensive to me as a TV viewer, in no particular order.
