There is Nothing Better Than a Good Dog

You could have all the elaborate security systems for your house. You might even have a gun in your house. The best means of protecting your home is a dog.

Why is a dog the best means of protecting your home and its contents? Does it have to be a guard dog? Does it have to be attack trained? Does it have to be a big dog?

Your dog does not have to be a big dog, a guard dog, or attack trained. It just has to make noise when someone comes around.

Don't scold your dog for barking when someone comes around. In fact reward it by saying good boy or good girl. Once you have established the person is a friend, family, or whatever than you can use a command that the dog knows to stop barking.

The dog should be allowed to bark when it hears something or someone. This is important cause the dog is doing its job. Even a small dog can alert you to something or someone.

When your not at home a dogs bark will scare away an intruder. Its the unknown that bothers a burglar when he hears a dog. He doesn't know where the dog is or if it bites. The main reason is the dog makes noise and can alert anyone sleeping. He doesn't want a dog to alert the neighbors either. Normally when a burglar hears a dog in the house he will leave and not try to enter.

There is nothing wrong with having a security system in your house. If its a silent type or makes noise he has to enter to usually set it off. Where a dog can hear him coming up the driveway. Dogs also have a keen sense of smell when something is not right. Even small dogs have kept people from ransacking homes by barking.

Most dogs are territorial too which puts them in a mode to bark when someone comes around. If you ever gone up close to a car with a dog inside most dogs will bark and take a defensive posture. Until the dog realizes your not a threat it will bark to warn and alert. Most dogs will not stop barking till it sees its owner. A dog does not have to be specially trained cause it will already know to try and protect its territory. Even some cats have been known to make some noise when it feels there is a threat.
