Established in 1951 by then Guinness Brewery managing director Sir Hugh Beaver, the Guinness World Book of Records holds it's own record. As the best-selling copyrighted book series of all time. Originally known as the Guinness Book of Records, the book was originally produced as a way to settle pub disputes of needless information. The series became first available in 1955, and has sold about 3 million copies per edition- it is available in over 100 countries. Several years ago, the series began to include a section devoted to the video gaming world. Since the section's induction it has became one of the most popular in the book by it's core readers.

In acknowledgment of this, editors of the Guinness World Book of Records has decided to dedicate a volume specifically geared towards the gaming community. The book which will cover topics including console polarity, hardware profiles, game sales and scores, technical achievements by game, and even the salaries of professional gamers, will be entitled "Guinness World Book of Records- Videogame Edition-2008. GamesIndustry.biz editor Ellie Gibson has been appointed as the official consultant for the project.

With this being said, gamers will no longer be able to dispute record scores they claim to have achieved, or the amount of callouses they have accumulated by gaming. They will all be in black and white print for their reference, although most records have been proven as accurate- some are still disputed as being under suspicion while still others are known as false. This is despite the Guinness's stance as their providing records that are "tested, verified and elevated above all suspicion".

The book will be on display for a close up view at the London Book Fair taking place April 14-16th, and is sure to impact both gamers and the gaming industry alike.

You know, I NEVER made the connection between the brewery and the book 'til I read your article ... That's awesome. Great writing! Also thanks for your comment on "Deliver Me"-- I responded on the page, but realized that's sort of stupid, so I'll tell you here: I imagined it as more acoustic, probably a piano and cello :) CHEERS!
