The Secret is Out

The TV show Lost has a secret plot. It is through this secret plot that Lost is able to keep viewers and fans on the edge of their seats. Yet, this secret plot of Lost is also making it difficult for new viewers to understand and follow the show Lost.

The TV show Lost focuses on a set of people that were victims of a plane crash. They are on an island with no hope of rescue. The plot focuses primarily on the adventures and events that unfold for the characters on the island. To spice things up there are the "others" on Lost that complicate matters.

After the primary story line fizzled out in the first season of Lost, it became apparent that the producers and writers were going to have to have a secret plot. How in the world were they going to keep fans on the edge of their seats waiting for more?

The secret plot of Lost is the focus on the past lives of each of the characters. Through the events that unfold on Lost, characters have memory flashbacks to their past. Instead of being a bunch of stranded people on an island, the TV show Lost captures the past lives of each of the characters.

Flashbacks to the past make viewers more connected to the characters. Fans begin to develop feelings toward different characters on Lost. Before you know it, there is a favorite character; a hated character; a character you feel sorry for; and even more. The focus of the show becomes wanting to know more about the characters. Instead of just focusing on the events of being Lost, fans want to know more about different characters. They know if they watch the show that more information will be revealed.

From week to week, you never know for sure which character will have flashbacks. You can begin to guess but it's not certain until the episode unfolds before you. Without the flashbacks, Lost story line would become old and boring. Regular fans would begin to turn to other television shows.

My conception of the LOST's island spacetime graphic diagram and the reason why Desmond couldn't sail away from the island. I'm into the science of it all. http://a63.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/9/l_e3058b31acc3b8f7691ce165f3a117e6.gif

Secret plot of no, this still sounds like an interesting show. I've never seen it.

This article is horrible. You do not show a secret plot, but a three year old storytelling device even people who don't watch the show know about. The above article could have been written from a press release issued three years ago.

I have never watched the show. It seems a little uninteresting to me. I always wondered about the plot though and why people like the show so much. Good article.

The flashbacks aren't a secret plot, just a stroy-telling device. And the main plot didn't fizzle out after season one, they just bogged it down during season two, but Lost is coming out great now.

Hi all. Thank you for the great discussion and comments. ;-) I think that my main point is that without the character flashbacks that there would be no "Lost" so to speak. There are many, many shows that have strong characters without using the character flashbacks as part of the plot development of the show. Without watching Lost weekly, many new viewers can become literally Lost and lose interest in the show. It is through the character flashbacks that fans bond with and identify with different characters on Lost so that they keep coming back weekly to watch the show. If the character flashbacks weren't present in the Lost plot, do you think that it would be as strong a series? Just curious. Thanks again for all the feedback.

This show is so complicated and I love it. I wish the people who complain about the show not moving fast enough need to realize that a lot of shows nowadays are missing good characters. The best about this show is that no one character is truly good nor bad. Everyone has a motive and the actions that result from them aren't always the best actions. You can feel for even the darkest of them (except for Ethan Fromm :))

I don't know Christine...maybe you had it right the first time. One of the characters on the show certainly has a "god" complex. It is also a "good" show, so I think you were right on both accounts.
