The movie Disturbia focuses on a teen (LeBouf) being placed under house arrest. LeBouf lost his father and was outraged at a comment made by his Spanish teacher. The result of the rage was LeBouf punching the teacher and ending up on house arrest.
The first challenge is to overcome boredom of being at home all day. The teen's mother cuts off access to the fun things in the home such as Xbox Live. A new neighbor, Ashley, moves in next door. She just happens to be the perfect teen for LeBouf's character.
The second challenge is to set up the property to know just how far he can go without setting off the alarm of his ankle bracelet. LeBouf's character becomes a professional peeping tom that watches the neighbors from all the windows of his home. He of course allows his imagination to run wild and has a live, reality show unfolding before his eyes on a daily basis.
Disturbia glorifies that the teen is a peeping Tom. The movie does not show how LeBouf's character obtains all his video and surveillance equipment. It is rather odd that a teen would just happen to have all the necessary items to be a professional peeping Tom in his room. Or is it just another clue as to how really disturbed LeBouf's character really is? It definitely makes you go hmmm.
As the movie progresses, LeBouf's character develops a friendship with the girl next door. His other friend visits him frequently as well. The three of them notice that there are stories on the internet of missing girls. The details of a house found full of bodies is rather gruesome. Later, the three decide that one of the neighbors is the serial killer. They commence to spy on him to collect evidence that he's the serial killer.
